"If You Are
Good Enough They Will Find You"
Translation : I'm
too lazy to take control of my recruiting future. Unless
you are a nationally known "Blue Chip" prospect, 'they'
will not find you! Remember that incredible athlete at your
school from a few years back? You know, the one who received
no offers, or one pathetic one, and then blamed it on 'politics',
or on the coach? That's what happens to the guy (or gal) who
lives by this motto. It's like saying "I shouldn't study
because if I'm smart enough I'll get good grades".
"Grades Don't
Matter"
Schools with great academic reputations have a hard time finding
enough good athletes with excellent academics. A solid GPA
and high SAT score, combined with some athletic talent and the RIGHT
exposure will get you more opportunities than you ever though possible.
DIII and other schools that can not offer athletic scholarships
do offer academic or merit scholarships, and other awards.
Want
to be a Pro?
There are nearly one million
High school football players and about 550,000 basketball players.
Of that number, about 250 football players will make it to the NFL,
and about 50 basketball players will make it to the NBA. The odds
of a High-school football player making it to the pros at all -
let alone having a career - is about 6,000 to 1. In basketball the
odds are about 10,000 to 1. Take
a hard look at those numbers. Then take a hard look at your education.
Use your athletic ability as a means to get the best education possible!
